DAILY Breaking News - Lowcountry Breaking News

Business decision-makers invited to Sustainability in Small Business

Sept. 21, 2012 – On Oct. 9, 2012, from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., Experience Green will welcome Dodd Galbreath, founder, executive director and assistant professor at the Institute for Sustainable Practice at Lipscomb University as guest presenter for “Sustainability for Small Business,” a Profit Green workshop offering with Network Green for business decision makers and community leaders.  This Profit Green workshop is sponsored by Hilton Head Monthly, The Island Packet and Collins Group Realty.

Galbreath has more than 29 years experience with environmental and sustainability issues, and earlier this year he was presented with the Sustainable TN Award by the Tennessee Environmental Council.  While serving two former Tennessee governors of different parties, Dodd led efforts to implement a nationally recognized wetlands conservation plan; to create one of the nation’s first environmental justice plans; guided passage of five legislative proposals to manage competing water allocations and transfers, and designation of the first state scenic river in 25 years.  He currently serves in two mayoral appointments for the City of Nashville, TN in open space preservation and storm water management. Dodd teaches graduate and undergraduate courses on Sustainable Enterprise, Sustainable Society, and leads multiple annual travel courses to sustainable destinations and events that promote the green economy.  He specializes in green infrastructure for water management, climate change, the relationship between faith and sustainability, leading workshops and giving conference presentations.

According to the Office of Advocacy in 2009, there were 27.5 million small businesses in the United States.  “While most large corporations now engage in sustainability programs, small businesses are often challenged to devote the time and resources to sustainability – and some just don’t understand that it’s important in the grand scheme,” said Teresa Wade, Executive Director of Experience Green.  The “Sustainability for Small Business” workshop will focus on sustainability for small business that benefits not only the planet, but also the financial bottom line, and a business’ most important resource – human capital.  Participants of the workshop will gain understanding of why sustainability is a mega-trend for businesses of all sizes, connect business to the concept of sustainability, and learn why green business practices reduce costs, engage employees, and boosts profits.

The event will be held at the Bluffton Library, 120 Palmetto Way, Bluffton, SC 29910. Attendee registration is open at www.experiencegreen.org.  There is an early bird discounted registration through Sept. 30 for $49 (includes a box lunch).

Experience Green is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with the mission to build sustainable communities that benefit the planet, its people and prosperity.  To register or learn more about Experience Green, this event, or to offer sponsorships, donations, or to volunteer, please visit www.experiencegreen.org, e-mail This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
