The Chatham County Safety Net Planning Council (CCSNPC) will celebrate the implementation of the state of Georgia’s first Health Information Exchange project on Wednesday, April 14, at 11:30 a.m. at the J.C. Lewis Health Center on Fahm Street. The event, “Launching the Link to a Healthy County,” is one of the many celebrations during National County Government Month.
The Pilot Project will link the electronic medical records systems at J. C. Lewis Health Center and the Emergency Department at Memorial Health University Medical Center through safe, secure electronic portals to a protected central database managed by the Chatham County Safety Net Planning Council. Software in the database will organize and store information into a single summary for each patient.
“Beginning with the pilot project between J. C. Lewis Health Center and Memorial University Medical Center’s (MUMC) Emergency Department, the Health Information Exchange will mature into a community-wide health information exchange for Chatham County,” said CCSNPC Executive Director, Paula Reynolds.
The information exchange project is expected to improve efficiencies by enabling health information to follow the patient and enhance quality of care by making information available for clinical decision support, regardless of where the patient comes in for health care.
The HIE project was selected as one of three state demonstration projects by the Georgia Department of Community Health and the Health Resources and Services Administration. Software development for the project is contracted with Orion Health, a national and international leader in Health Information Technology.
