SBJ Staff Report
Oct 24, 2011 - The Hilton Head Island-Bluffton Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring an informational seminar on the new mandatory South Carolina immigration laws that will feature speakers Catherine Templeton, Director of the SC Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation and Jim Knight, Administrator Office of Immigrant Worker Compliance.
South Carolina has been aggressive in its enforcement of federal and state immigration laws to date, according to a number of local business leaders. But there are a number of laws that will affect businesses in the entire Savannah, Coastal Georgia and Lowcountry area as of January 1, 2012.
Speakers will discuss the new e-verify requests which are effective January 1, 2012, and apply to all businesses regardless of size as well as the associated penalties and consequences for businesses not in compliance.
Business and community members are invited to attend and gain tips on how to apply the new requirements for their business. A question and answer session will follow the presentation which will be held Tuesday, November 1, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Park Lane Hotel & Suites on Hilton Head Island.
There is no cost to attend. To register or for more information go to hiltonheadchamber.org or call (843) 785-3673.
