SBJ Staff Report
Oct 24, 2011 - On October 1, 2009, OSHA introduced the National Emphasis Program (NEP) on Recordkeeping to determine accuracy and to assess the injury and illness data recorded by employers, with a particular focus on the construction industry.
The NEP involves inspecting occupational injury and illness records prepared by businesses and appropriately enforcing regulatory requirements when the employers are found to be under-recording injuries and illnesses.
OSHA announced that their inspections will include a records review, employee interview and a limited safety and health inspection on jobsites with high injury and illness rates. The construction industry is identified as having high injuries and illness rates.
A free training program will be held on Weds, Nov. 30 from 8:30 AM - 12:00 PM at the offices of JCB in Pooler. The seminar will familiarize businesses on the OSHA recordkeeping requirements, posting and reporting; and how to correctly complete OSHA forms 300, 300A and the 301.
The class is being sponsored jointly by NAWIC and The Associated General Contractors of America, Georgia Chapter, and will be taught by Phillip Moncrief from the Savannah OSHA office. NAWIC supports the personal and professional development of women in the construction industry.
Under the Obama Administration, OSHA enforcement has escalated and OSHA is seeing tougher penalties as a result of increased pressure from Congress.
The free seminar will familiarize employers on the recordkeeping requirements, as well as posting and reporting statutes, and will provide a hands-on session on how to correctly complete OSHA forms 300, 300A and the 301. Seating is limited.
