SBJ Staff Report

Oct 24, 2011 – Savannah Technical College will host an open casting call for the third season of the television show ‘Master Chef’ from 10AM to 6PM on Saturday, November 19, 2011, at STC’s Savannah Campus at 5717 White Bluff Road, Savannah.  Professional chefs are not eligible for the competition.

“As one of the top culinary schools in the Southeast, we are honored that MasterChef has selected Savannah Tech to host its auditions,” according to STC President Kathy Love. “I am very proud of the outstanding program Chef Vendeville and his staff has developed at the Culinary Institute of Savannah. These auditions are an excellent opportunity for our students and a wonderful opportunity to showcase our culinary programs.”

To be eligible. entrants must be 18 years or older on February 1, 2012, a citizen or legal permanent resident of the United States and their main source of income cannot come from preparing and cooking fresh food in a professional environment (restaurant, hotels, food trucks, catering, etc).

People interesting in applying need to download the application at the attached link and bring it to the open call. Or pre-register online at http://www.masterchefcasting.com.

If selected to be on the show, entrants must be available to commit to the competition and taping of this show for approximately six weeks between the months of February and April 2012, depending on how far they advance in the competition.

The Culinary Institute at Savannah Tech is accredited by the American Culinary Federation (ACF), as are its chef instructors. The program has been named one of the top four in the country, winning the Southeast Regional Hot Food competition in 2010 and Southeast Regional Knowledge Bowl competition in 2011.

Some FAQs from MasterChef on what to bring to the audition:

1. Application (go to www.masterchefcasting.com). Download the application, print out, and bring with you to an open call.

2. One prepared dish (see below).

3. A photo of yourself.

4. A photo of your plated dish. You must serve one plate of food to producer’s food experts. You will not have access to any equipment to heat your food and we will not supply you with any dishes, etc. You must bring your own utensils including the plate, knives, forks, spoons, etc. You will only be given a few minutes to plate your dish (once you get into the audition room) so bring whatever it is you need to do that! Please think carefully about the food that you bring, and how you will transport it to the open call, especially if you are travelling from afar. Please also take into consideration that you must be able to carry everything you need into the audition room. No plate of food, no entry to the open call.

Everyone auditioning will be going into the audition room in groups, so they highly suggest that those auditioning ‘start off with a bang’, and submit a great application and a stunning dish! Producers reserve the right to modify allotted times for auditions at their sole discretion.

At least one food expert will try to taste every plate of food presented to him or her in the audition room. There may be reasons that a food expert is unable to taste every dish - e.g. allergies, or if a food expert deems the dish to be inedible!
