
SBJ Staff ReportSept 12, 2011 - After a seven month search, St. Joseph’s/Candler Hospital System has announced the appointment of a new Chief Operating Officer, Kyle McCann, who will work directly with several health system departments, including Patient Care Services, Clinical Services, Information Systems, Ancillary Services and Human Resources.
The COO is responsible for all acute care and ambulatory care operations, all service lines and centers of excellence, human resources, information services and ancillary and clinical services. The COO reports to Paul Hinchey, President/CEO.
Prior to accepting the position with St. Joseph’s/Candler, McCann held senior management positions in large hospitals and health systems. Most recently, he was Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of SouthCrest Hospital in Tulsa, Okla. Previously, he served as the Senior Vice President/Chief Operating Officer for Washington Regional Medical Center in Fayetteville, Ark. and as the Administrative Director of Ancillary and Support Services at Jefferson Regional Medical Center in Pine Bluff, Ark.
McCann holds a Master of Business Administration and Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Louisiana Tech University, and served as a commissioned officer in the Louisiana Army National Guard for 10 years.
He steps into the important role for the hospital system previously held by Greg Harb, 44, since 2006. Harb resigned in February 2011 to become executive vice president/chief operating officer at Baystate Health in Springfield, Mass as of April 1.
Also named last week to a key role for the hospital system was Steve Pound who will serve as Vice President of Human Resources for St. Joseph’s/Candler. He replaces Don Stubbs who retired this past spring.
Pound will oversee human resources for the 3,600-employee health system. He has more than 25 years of human resources experience including position at Hamilton Medical Center in Dalton, Ga., where he served as Vice President of Human Resources. Prior to that he served as Vice President of Human Resources for CompFirst, LLC in Dalton, Ga., and Director of Corporate Employment Resources for Shaw Industries in Dalton, Ga.
Pound has a Bachelor of Business Administration from UGA and a Masters of Business Administration and Masters of Health Administration, both from Georgia State University.
