Sept. 20-Former UGA Star in Ownership Role for Training Facility Here

NEWS - Health & Hospitals

The new D1 Savannah training and therapy facility to open Sept. 20 in Savannah will have a co-owner well known to University of Georgia football fans -- Heisman Trophy winner Herschel Walker.

The Savannah location will be the 11th for D1 Sports Holdings, the parent company of D1 Sports Training and Therapy. All D1 facilities feature a turf field, weight room, a viewing gallery and an in-house sports therapy clinic.

Walker joins a list of D1 athlete co-owners. Walker led Georgia to a national championship before heading to the USFL and NFL for a 12-year career. Walker is currently pursuing a career in Mixed Martial Arts (MMA).

In Savannah, D1 will also partner with Southeastern Orthopedic Center to focus on treating athletes in a sport-specific environment to enable a more rapid return to the playing field.

D1 has opened facilities in 10 other locations with athlete and therapy partners. The athlete co-owners in other facilities feature names such as Peyton Manning, DeMeco Ryans, A.J. Hawk, Philip Rivers, Heather Mitts and Jermain Taylor.
