NOV. 22 - Georgia State Senate Majority Announces New Leadership

The Georgia Senate Majority Caucus announced the results of Caucus elections held Friday November 5, 2010. The Caucus elections are traditionally held at the beginning of each term immediately following meeting to elect officers is usually held just after the general election. Sen. Tommie Williams (R- Lyons) was nominated for president pro tempore, which will go to a full vote before the Senate on Jan. 11, 2011.

Sen. Chip Rogers (R- Woodstock) was re-elected as majority leader. Senator Bill Cowsert (R-Athens) and Senator Greg Goggans (R-Douglas) were re-elected as Caucus Chairman and Caucus Secretary, respectively. Senator Cecil Staton (R-Macon) was elected Majority Whip and Senator David Shafer (R-Duluth) was elected Caucus Vice-Chairman.

“I am eager to get to work with my colleagues both old and new. We have many tough decisions to make in order to balance the budget, improve our economy, and provide essential programs and services for all Georgians,” said Sen. Williams. “I’m honored and humbled to have once again been nominated to lead this distinguished body.”

“The Senate Republican caucus stands united in our effort to control government making it more accountable and transparent," said Sen. Rogers.
