John Sebby has joined the Georgia Land Trust, headquartered in Savannah, as well as the Alabama Land Trust and founding organization the Chattowah Open Land Trust, as Development Director. The Land Trusts are individual nonprofit organizations working with a common mission, staff and Board of Directors who are dedicated to the conservation of valuable cultural, natural, scenic, recreational and agricultural lands in perpetuity. Previously, Sebby was Vice President of Leadership Giving for the International Fellowship of Christians and Jews, where he led the Major Gifts and Planned Giving team. IFCJ raises $100 million annually and is the largest supporter of social services in the nation of Israel. He also served as the Vice President of the National Pain Foundation, dedicated to improving the quality of life for those in pain, where he engineered and facilitated a merger with the American Pain Foundation (APF) and was named interim CEO of the NFP during the transition. John retired from The Salvation Army as the Executive Director of Development for the Intermountain Division, which served Colorado, Wyoming, Utah and Montana.

Dr. Wallace Daniel, provost since 2008 of Mercer University, announced his decision Monday to return to the faculty at the end of December. President William D. Underwood announced that Dr. Daniel will be succeeded as provost by Dr. D. Scott Davis, senior vice provost for research and dean of graduate studies, effective Jan. 1, 2012.  Dr. Daniel, a renowned Russian historian, will be named Distinguished University Professor of History; he plans to complete a biography of Aleksandr Men, one of Russia’s leading Orthodox priests of the 20th century, before returning to the classroom. Father Men was murdered in 1990 at the height of his popular influence.
