Savannah Business Journal Staff Report

October 9, 2016 - As residents return to their homes following Hurricane Matthew’s departure, COUNTRY Financial is urging all homeowners to contact their insurance providers immediately to start the claims process.

“Damage caused by Hurricane Matthew may be significant in some areas of Georgia,” said John Butkus, director of property and material damage claims for COUNTRY Financial. “To help speed up the recovery process and reduce a potentially stressful time, we urge all homeowners, regardless of which insurance company they have, to start the claims process and report their claim as soon as possible.”

To help COUNTRY Financial customers start the rebuilding process, the insurer will have two service locations available. Customers are welcome to come to the claims office at 130 Canal Street, Ste. 301, in Pooler or the temporary storm response center at 2450 Memorial Drive in Waycross starting Monday. The hours of operation will be 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.  Customers can also report auto or property damage as a result of Hurricane Matthew by calling 1-866-COUNTRY or going online at www.countryfinancial.com.

“In order for the claims process to proceed smoothly and quickly, please provide your claims adjuster or representative receipts, an inventory of everything that was damaged and photos of your damaged property,” Butkus said.

Butkus recommends all homeowners take the following steps when returning to their homes:

  • Protect Your Property: Protect and clean up your property. Board up broken windows, cover holes with tarps and take steps to prevent further damage to your property.
  • Save Receipts: Save all receipts from emergency repairs.
  • Property Inventory: Make an inventory of your damaged property. Include age, model number, date of purchase and current purchase price for each item, if possible.
  • Collect Photographs: Take photos of your damaged property and give them to your claims representative.
