Wachovia/Wells Fargo Volunteers Come Together To Repair Elderly Couple’s Home

10/12/2009 – A $10,000 contribution from the Wells Fargo Housing Foundation to Rebuilding Together Savannah  has made possible the rebuilding of an elderly resident’s home in the Carver Heights neighborhood, now safer and more energy efficient.

Wells Fargo is the single largest sponsor for Rebuilding Together Savannah’s fall projects, a program in Savannah since 1997 that unites volunteers to repair the homes of low-income residents.

Volunteers made the repairs on Saturday, Oct. 24,  national “Make A Difference Day.”

“It is refreshing to see so many volunteers from the company step up to keep this couple living safely in their home,” said Ellen Hatcher, executive director of Rebuilding Together Savannah. “We are thankful for the generosity and spirit of volunteerism that Wachovia and Wells Fargo are showing to the Savannah community.”

“This initiative shows the power of bringing Wachovia and Wells Fargo together and demonstrates that this merger will take our commitment to the Savannah area and our partnership with local organizations even further,” said Jenny Gentry, Savannah area market president for Wachovia.

Wachovia representatives met with the homeowners to assess their needs and agreed to update the inside and outside of the home.  Projects included: replacing kitchen counters, cabinets and floor; adding energy-efficient light bulbs; installing new ceiling fans; painting and repairing walls; adding safety bars; adding outdoor motion sensors; and replacing the back door.

The bank had more than 50 volunteers for the volunteer event.
