The Landings Company has created an entirely new website to market the region’s largest gated community, The Landings at Skidaway Island, which has more than 3,800 homes and six golf courses. “The company’s website is a proverbial online storefront and an important marketing tool. So in an age where a strong web presence is synonymous with success, The Landings Company is proud to announce its new website: www.TheLandings.com,” according to Ed Bundy, a Realtor with The Landings Company who is helping to market the new site.

The website redesign is easier to use, more accurate, detail-oriented and faster than the previous site and encompasses a more interactive experience especially when browsing real estate offerings, he explained. It was built by aember of the real estate team.

Mike Lepper, former executive with Friedman’s Jewelers and the former president and owner of The Treasure Chest retail jewelry company on Broughton Street, Savannah, has joined The International Jewelry Exchange company located on DeRenne Ave.  The popular Savannah jeweler is moving to a much larger store on Sept. 1 at the corner of Mall Blvd and Hodgson Memorial Pkwy.  Their new signs are up and they were working over the weekend to get moved in. Look for their Grand Opening events. These are the top folks in town to buy your unneeded gold jewelry and trade it in for a new bauble!

Morris Publishing Group, LLC ‘dismissed’ its public accounting firm, Deloitte & Touche LLP as its independent registered public accounting firm last week and moved its business to Elliott Davis, LLC, one of the larger accounting, tax and consulting services firms in the Southeast.  The firm has a small office in Augusta.

While Morris did not give a reason for making the switch, the company did have to restate its 2010 fiscal year final numbers due to errors and acknowleged in SEC filings,“…we identified a material weakness in our internal control over financial reporting with respect to the operational effectiveness of controls in the area of accounting for complex non-recurring transactions. As a result of this material weakness, we concluded that our disclosure controls and procedures were not effective as of December 31, 2010.”

The United States Dept of Agriculture announced the winning proposals for the 2011 Conservation Innovation Grants (CIG). Through CIG, the USDA's Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) is investing nearly $22.5 million in innovative conservation technologies and approaches that address a broad array of existing and emerging natural resource issues. The University of Georgia was the recipient of one of the 52 grants.

The UGA award of $122,712 was for a project to demonstrate the effectiveness of solar energy in cooling, heating, and pumping water, and for drip irrigation, aerating ponds, and watering livestock.

And speaking of Morris Publishing. They appear to be off to a rough start of outsourcing functions to India, etc.  The 'Snews' sent our renewal bills to that other biz paper in town using the office mailing address AND the telephone number of The Savannah Business Journal!  Can't make this stuff up, folks. We were getting mail from people who wanted to cancel their sub to that other paper...phone calls, etc.   When we contacted publisher Michael Traynor, his response was 'We recently switched invoicing vendors and we will check with them to see if there is an issue as shown on the example you sent me." There's a problem, Mike.
