Sept. 6 - Savannah Area Business Buzzzzzzzz

The Savannah Craft Brew Fest, held Friday through Sunday this past weekend at the Trade Center on Hutchinson Island, had strong attendance numbers, and actually ‘Sold Out’ Sunday afternoon, according to Erica Backus, public relations manager for Visit Savannah, Savannah’s CVB organization.

Hats off to the Savannah Area Chamber of Commerce and Visit Savannah staffs who are in recovery mode this week from all the hard work!  Melissa Yao, Senior Vice President of the Chamber, was tweeting one night after she got home that her feet hurt so badly they felt as though they were still running. Follow her on Twitter – she’s prolific!  As they were setting up on Friday, Yao tweeted that ‘apparently they were ‘not smarter than a fifth grader’ as no on one on the Chamber staff could match the international flags with the various beer options!

Saturday’s Grand Tasting event had 4, 177 attendees, according to Backus, the largest of the three events over the weekend. Friday night’s Brew Fest dinner had 275 people in attendance, also very strong numbers. Months of planning went into making it all a success, aided by the 250 volunteers from the general public – “an overwhelming response,” reports Backus – that were essential to pull it all off.

The Gulfstream Aerospace Corp. recently opened an aircraft brake repair, modification and overhaul shop that complements the wheel and tire shop that has been in operation since March 2010.  The new 34,000-sq ft. facility is in Lincoln, CA, approximately 30 miles northeast of Sacramento. The facility is unique from the other nine Gulfstream service centers worldwide because it is dedicated to component repair, modification and overhaul, according to Mark Burns, president, Gulfstream Product Support.   Gulfstream Savannah and Gulfstream Lincoln are the only company facilities that perform brake maintenance. Technicians at Lincoln specialize in GV and GIV brakes, as well as wheels and tires on the G200, G150, GV, GIV and GIII models.  The facility’s nearly 30 technicians can also work on components built by other original equipment manufacturers, including Bombardier and Hawker Beechcraft.  The site’s capabilities include electromechanical, electric and electronic component repair, modification and overhaul; instrument, avionics and rotable repair, modification and overhaul; spare part exchanges and repairs; and government part sales and repairs.
