It’s not too late to attend Savannah Chamber of Commerce’s annual tribute to our area’s manufacturers at the Manufacturer’s Council Annual Breakfast which will take place this Weds, Oct. 19 at the Savannah Golf Club from 8 to 9:30 a.m. The breakfast is being sponsored by Georgia Power and will recognize area manufacturers celebrating significant anniversaries. The International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC) will hear a feature presentation by economist Michael Toma, director, Center for Regional Analysis and professor of economics at Armstrong Atlantic State University at the group’s upcoming meeting in Savannah on Oct. 26. Toma will discuss regional findings and provide an outlook of what can be expected for 2012 in the retail real estate industry.

Sea Pines Resort has completed renovations at the Inn at Harbour Town, including improved sound and light-proofing of guest rooms, new fabrics and spa-like bathrooms. In addition, there is a new media center and laptop docks in guest rooms. The lobby has also been revitalized, according to the management team of the Inn. According to John Munro, director of marketing and hospitality, the 60-room Inn has a “stunning new look for our guests.” They are currently featuring “Romance Packages” to bring customers back for a look.

Graybar, a leading distributor of electrical, communications and data networking products and provider of related supply chain management and logistics services, has announced that the company has entered into a $500 million, five year unsecured revolving line of credit. Bank of America Merrill Lynch was the lead institution in the transaction, with PNC, U.S. Bank, SunTrust Bank and J.P. Morgan acting as joint lead arrangers. Commerce Bank, Regions Bank, Wells Fargo, Fifth Third Bank, Comerica and UMB also participated in the transaction. It is the largest financing agreement in Graybar’s history and replaces the company’s prior $200 million arrangement. The company has operations in the Savannah area.

Verizon Wireless has announced expansion of its 4G network to the Savannah area, part of a 178 market expansion, to be launched on Nov. 17 locally. Verizon has the largest market share in the U.S. wireless field. The first 22 new cities will go live Oct. 20, with all markets live by Thanksgiving. Consumers and businesses in these cities will be able to access the faster speeds of Verizon Wireless' 4G LTE network with any of Verizon Wireless' 13 4G LTE-enabled devices, including the new Pantech Breakout™ and DROID BIONIC™ by Motorola smartphones, and the 4G LTE-enabled Motorola XOOM™. All 178 markets are expected to be live before Thanksgiving, allowing them to harness the speed and power of the network not only where they live but also where they travel, according to the company.

And, Hargray began construction last week to connect Daufuskie Island with fiber optic cable. Daufuskie has been served with wireless microwave communications equipment, which limits the amount of bandwidth available and is not as reliable as fiber. “We are pleased to be making this important investment to provide fiber connectivity to improve the reliability and quality of communications for the residents and businesses of Daufuskie Island,” said Michael Gottdenker, chairman and CEO of Hargray. “This has been a long time coming and will significantly improve public safety as well.”

The project involves boring under the Calibogue Sound from South Beach in Sea Pines to install the fiber optic cable. Hargray worked closely with the Community Services Associates in Sea Pines to minimize disruption to nearby residents. The project is expected to take six to eight weeks to complete.
