June 2, 2016 - More than 330 guests attended the Savannah Area Chamber’s Military Appreciation Luncheon, held on Thurs. May 26 at the Westin Savannah Harbor Golf Resort & Spa.
The keynote address was given by Lieutenant General Mike Murray, Deputy Chief of Staff, G-8, U.S. Army, who focused on the significance and true meaning of Memorial Day. Stories were shared of service members throughout the nation’s history who gave their lives for freedom, up to present day.
Six awards were given at the event by the Chamber to top service members in the Savannah area in each branch of the military. The award recipients were:
- Corporal Clint W. Horton. 3rd Infantry Division, Ft. Stewart/Hunter Army Airfield
“Outstanding Army Soldier of the Year”
- Staff Sergeant Chad A. Edsall, United States Marine Corps, Hunter Army Airfield
“Outstanding Marine of the Year”
- Petty Officer Robert Harris, United States Coast Guard Marine Safety Unit
“Outstanding Coast Guard Person of the Year”
- Ensign Lance Landers, Savannah State University
“Outstanding Naval ROTC Student of the Year”
- Senior Airmen Trayvonne A. Baker, 165th Airlift Wing, GA Air National Guard
“Outstanding Airman of the Year”
- Pat Yovich, Savannah Navy League
“Outstanding Civilian of the Year”
Luncheon sponsors included Gulfstream, Nine Line Apparel, Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport, Georgia Power, Savannah Technical College, Coca-Cola Bottling Company and iHeartMedia Savannah-Hilton Head.
