April 18, 2019 - Hargray, a regional communications provider, recently announced that it is expanding its fiber footprint to offer advanced communications services to businesses in Covington, Georgia. This announcement follows Hargray’s agreement to acquire Dark Fiber Systems based in Jacksonville, Florida.
Chris McCorkendale, Hargray Fiber’s Senior Vice President, said, “We are thrilled to continue our expansion in Georgia. As a leading provider of fast and reliable last-mile fiber broadband services throughout the southeast, we are acutely aware of the demand for advanced communications services. Our expansion into Covington reflects Hargray’s continued commitment to making those services more accessible for business leaders.”
Hargray was founded 70 years ago in Beaufort County, South Carolina. In recent years Hargray has expanded into Hawkinsville, Hinesville, Lake Oconee, Macon, Perry, Reidsville, Savannah, Statesboro, Valdosta, and Warner Robins, Georgia; and Pell City, AL. Hargray commemorated its entry into Covington with a groundbreaking ceremony followed by a luncheon at City Pharmacy.
Mayor Ronnie Johnston said, “It is an honor to have businesses of all sizes, across various industries, calling Covington home. In order to continue driving this incredible economic growth, we must ensure businesses have what they need to operate. Interstates and roadways used to be the key to strong business, but our online marketplace brings an entirely different demand – strong broadband. We are not only glad Hargray chose Covington, but that it is has done so with a commitment to local service.”
Businesses in Covington will have the ability to receive a full suite of communication products including enhanced data, voice, and video services including Hosted Unified Communications, Metro-Ethernet, multi-gigabit symmetrical circuits, and video services customized for various commercial applications - all delivered exclusively over Hargray’s 100% fiber-optic network. Hargray also provides colocation services. Network construction is underway and service will be available this summer.
