Savannah Business Journal Staff Report

October 2, 2018 - Chatham County law enforcement agencies are about to make verifying a vehicle identification number (VIN) more convenient for its residents.

Beginning in early October, the departments will come to a resident’s location to perform VIN verifications 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Residents of unincorporated Chatham County and its municipalities are eligible for this service. Residents can call 912-652-6500, ext. 5 to have an officer from their jurisdiction dispatched to their location to perform the VIN verification. The service is free of charge and will be provided 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Tybee Island residents may call the Tybee Island Police Department directly at 912-786-5600 for the service.

Previously, VIN verifications were only available during very limited hours at specific Chatham County locations.
