Web-based Commercial Property Search Scales Up

The Savannah Economic Development Authority (SEDA), The Creative Coast Alliance (TCCa) and the Savannah Development & Renewal Authority (SDRA) have joined forces to provide a website on available commercial property for sale or lease.

TCCa and SDRA have launched a web-based mapping technology onto SEDA's existing property database platform to expand the information previously available. SEDA has traditionally sought to keep track of larger commercial tracts available to answer incoming questions from companies looking at the Savannah area, but the information was incomplete, according to Brynn Grant, TCCa executive director and SEDA vice president of marketing.

The site was developed initially for SEDA by Georgia-based BinaryBus, Ltd. using cutting-edge GIS (Geographic Information Systems) technology, according to Grant. The application enables users to search, map and analyze demographic and business information for available commercial property listings in Chatham County.

Until now, SEDA, TCCa and SDRA have listed available property on their respective websites independently, each using a different technology, and each collecting and listing properties with different size and geographic parameters.

The new application will utilize SEDA's master database, allowing all three organizations to add and update property collectively. For example, a downtown property providing information to SDRA will also have the added benefit of being automatically listed on the SEDA and TCCa websites.

While all three organizations' websites will utilize the same data, each one will focus on different sections of the market within Chatham County. SEDA will list all industrial, office and land properties outside of Greater Downtown Savannah that exceed 5,000 square feet, while TCCa will focus on office, retail and land in all of Chatham County for properties less than 5,000 square feet. SDRA will list industrial, office, land and retail properties in Greater Downtown Savannah, which includes land and space north of Victory Drive and between West Boundary Street and the Truman Parkway, along Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard and Montgomery Street, and from River Street to 52nd Street.

A variety of tasks can be performed:

Search: Searches can be based on property type (industrial, office, retail or land), space requirements, distance to transportation access, parcel ID, and more.

Map: The results of each search include a map of relevant properties, allowing the user to zoom in/out or define a specific region. Each property can then be selected for more detailed information.

Demographics and Statistics: For a given user-defined area there is both a demographic profile and a business analysis, offering a wide-range of population, household and business information.

Property Details: Information on each property includes building specifications, photos, access to utilities, distances from the port and airport, lease rates, and more.

Portfolio: All property search results can be customized and saved to a portfolio for future viewing, printing and sharing.

"As the economy evolves and new markets emerge, it is SEDA's goal to keep Savannah in the forefront," according to Lynn Pitts, senior vice president of SEDA. "We pride ourselves on staying ahead of the curve, and these types of adjustments and partnerships are the natural progression of our services."

"This partnership has been in the works since we launched the initial version of the property search application on the SEDA website in Sept.2008," said Grant.

"Maximizing and leveraging the resources of SDRA, SEDA and TCCa makes good sense not only in today's fluctuating economy; it is a must to ensure that the most effective and efficient tools are provided to aid existing and prospective business and property entrepreneurs", added Lise Sundrla, executive director of the SDRA.
