Savannah Business Journal Special Report

September 22, 2017 - Today three warehousing and distribution companies; ONL-RBW Logistics, Distribution Services International, Inc. (DSI) and ICON Health & Fitness announced expansions in Savannah, released today.  The announcements mean more than 90 new job opportunities and $42 million in investment for the region, according to the Savannah Economic Development Authority.

ONL-RBW Logistics announced it has leased a 300,000 square foot facility that will bring 36 new job opportunities and $1 million in investment.  RBW Logistics, which opened in Savannah in 2011, partnered with New Jersey based O’Neill Logistics to create ONL-RBW Logistics in 2014. The new location will be its fourth in Savannah.

“ONL-RBW Logistics continues to see tremendous growth opportunities with new and existing shippers in Savannah,” said Frank Anderson, RBW Logistics President and CEO. “This is the company’s fourth location in Savannah. With the increased demand in e-commerce & fulfillment services, and the unmatched efficiencies of GPA among other things, we see a bright future for growth in the Savannah market.”

DSI also announced the expansion of one of their facilities that will include 35 new job opportunities and $13 million in investment. The facility’s Birkenhead property, which is located a mile and a half from the Port of Savannah, will expand to 550,000 square feet of warehouse space with 32 indoor rail car spots 48 dock doors and more than 325 container parking spaces.

“As a locally owned business, we are very excited to deliver our new facility to the Savanah market and continue our aggressive growth with the support of SEDA and all of our local leadership in Port Wentworth and the Savannah area. The investments in this property will help DSI meet the growing demand for our logistics services from manufacturers and retailers using the port of Savannah,” said DSI President Justin Redmond. “This expansion is a true win-win for the community.”

ICON Health & Fitness, is the world’s largest developer, manufacturer and marketer of home and commercial fitness equipment. The company holds leading market share in treadmills, elliptical, stationary bikes and multi-purpose home gyms and represents such brands as Altra footwear, iFIT COACH technology, PRO-FORM, NordicTrack and more.  announced 20 new job opportunities. The company announced an expansion of 20 new job opportunities and $17 million in investment.

“Fitness and running have become a true lifestyle for a wide range of consumers across the country and around the world,” said Colleen Logan, Vice President, Marketing of ICON Health & Fitness. “The expansion at our warehouse facilities is a reflection of how important and popular our product categories have become. With our excellent relationship with the Georgia Ports Authority and local developers such as Northpoint it only makes sense for expansion to be in Chatham County. We look forward to continuing to grow our footprint and staying in the area long term.”

In making the announcements today, SEDA President and CEO Trip Tollison noted that the three expansions are a strong sign of the health of the logistics and distribution market in Savannah. “It is fantastic to have three companies announce in one day that they are choosing Savannah to expand. The Port of Savannah, our stellar workforce and our vast infrastructure continue to be assets that encourage companies to expand and locate in our area.”
