Sept. 9 - COMMENTARY: Hats Off and Mouths Shut

Category: Editorial & Opinion

By Lou Phelps, Publisher, Coastal Empire News

September, 2017 - Hats off to our County and City officials and employees who have put in SO much time to prepare us for Hurricane Irma.

Especially of note is Dennis Jones, Director of CEMA and Lee Smith, County Manager, who took notes from last October's Hurricane Matthew experience, and followed an extensive process to implement changes for this hurricane round.

Jose is still out there, and then Katia. They/we may still have a tough few weeks ahead.

And we will have flooding over next two days.

As we watch Southwest Florida get hit today and tomorrow, absorb what could have been. And, smile at ... or ignore ... with the best possible use of your Southern manners and civility, those who will be the first on the band wagon to criticize. They got us ready for the worst, based on the best science available, which is what we pay them and trust them to do.

For all of the County/City team, we are truly grateful at Coastal Empire News.
