Sept. 20 - State Photography Association Marks 60 Years With Diamond Gala

Savannah Business Journal Staff Report

September 20 - Georgia’s statewide photographic trade association is marking its 60th year of advancing the industry and serving photographers of all levels with a special event being held at the end of this month.

Founded in 1959, the Georgia Professional Photographers Association (GPPA) is preparing to celebrate its diamond anniversary during its upcoming annual photographic retreat, dubbed Exposed, which is to be held Sept. 27-30 in Savannah at the Hilton Garden Inn Savannah Midtown.

Exposed features a first-rate line up of industry-leading photographers teaching their various specialties, photographic print competition, social and networking opportunities, special pricing and offers from on-site photographic vendors, and more. Additionally, a special Diamond Gala party with a 1950s “Supper Club” theme including period dress will be the culmination of this year’s event.

“I’m really excited about celebrating GPPA’s 60th year with all my fellow photographers, who feel more like family to me than just friends,” said GPPA president Stephen Jones, Cr.Photog, CPP, GSD. “There is no doubt for me that my membership in GPPA is a huge reason I am still working in the industry, and not burned out, given up, or folded up, forcing me to leave the business I love. So, I am so honored to serve as president of this wonderful organization during our special anniversary year,” said Jones, who is a commercial photographer based out of Rome, and only the second photographer to serve two terms as the association’s president.

Exposed is free to all GPPA members. Non-members are welcome to attend, with registration options starting as low as $75. Details including a full schedule of events and how to register may be found at www.gppa.com/exposed.
