Aug. 8 - Buy Local Hosts Two Functions in August

The focus is on frivolity.

Aug. 8, 2013 – All work and no play just doesn't cut it.  Join Buy Local for an evening of unadulterated camaraderie as we close out the summer with a bang and a band.

This is the first in a new series of quarterly social gatherings which will supplement our regular monthly luncheons.  The plan is to move around to different locations in an effort to enhance the convenience factor for some of our current and prospective members.  We're looking forward to a strong Southside contingent.

Entertainment provided by the Man of Steel, Melvin Dean.  Admission price includes light hors d'oeuvres and first libation.

Meeting particulars are:

Location: Pearl’s Saltwater Grille, 7000 La Roche AVE.

Event Date: Tuesday, August 29, 2013.  

Start time: 5:30 p.m. 

Luncheon: 7:30 p.m.

Cost: Members $15.  Non-members $25.


The City of Savannah Buying Local...From Policy to Prosperity

There’s no shortage of discussion on the importance and impact of local sourcing.  Join Buy Local Savannah as we hear the detailed specifics about how the City of Savannah puts it dollars to work among locally owned enterprises.

Acting City Manager Stephanie Cutter will present an overview of the City’s policies and initiatives as they relate to identifying and utilizing products and services from local providers.  Attendees will learn about City set asides and how they can take advantage of them. Cutter will also discuss how businesses can automatically receive communications about projects and bids, and the protocols for competing for them.  She will also present case studies of local businesses that have capitalized on Savannah’s purchasing programs.

Cutter will review the current state of the relationship between the City and its small business constituency.  She will accept from the floor suggestions for improving the business-government interplay. 

Attendees will learn:

• Which of their products/services are used by City departments.

• How to sign up for the appropriate notification lists.

• Specific procedures for crafting and submitting bids.

• How to track and respond to bid outcomes.
