Sept. 2 - IMPORTANT Hurricane Operations Update from St. Joseph's and Candler Hospitals

Sept. 2, 2019 – 1:35 p.m. - St. Joseph’s/Candler will scale back operations at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Candler Hospital and across the health system as Hurricane Dorian approaches.

For Candler Hospital (located on DeRenne Avenue):

-  All patients who are stable enough to leave will be discharged ahead of the storm.

-  A small group of patients who are too sick to be transported will stay during the storm.

-  All babies in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit are being transported to hospitals inland.

-   A small crew of co-workers will remain at Candler Hospital to care for the remaining patients.

-   All scheduled surgery and other outpatient services will be cancelled through Thursday with tentative plans to reopen on Friday based on storm impact. 

-   The Emergency Department will stay open but will begin ambulance diversion to St. Joseph’s Hospital at 7 a.m. Tuesday morning.  We recommend that anyone who needs emergency help go to St. Joseph’s Hospital at 11705 Mercy Boulevard.

-    Emergency Obstetric services will be available.

For St. Joseph’s Hospital (located on Abercorn Street and Mercy Boulevard)

-   Will remain fully open.

-   However, all patients who are stable enough to leave will be discharged ahead of the storm.

-    The Emergency Department will remain open.

-    All scheduled surgery and other outpatient services will be cancelled through Thursday with tentative plans to reopen on Friday based on storm impact. 

-    The newly renovated St. Joseph’s Hospital is now one of the strongest buildings in Savannah capable of withstanding significant hurricane force winds.

The Pooler Campus will be closed Tuesday through Thursday with tentative plans to reopen on Friday based on storm impact.

 The St. Joseph’s/Candler Physician Network Primary Care and Specialist offices in Chatham, Bryan, Effingham, Beaufort and Jasper counties as well as Urgent Care practices will be closed Tuesday through Thursday with tentative plans to reopen on Friday depending on the severity of the storm.  Some St. Joseph’s/Candler Urgent Care facilities are closed today. 

 The Nancy N. and J.C. Lewis Cancer & Research Pavilion practices in Georgia and South Carolina will be closed for the rest of the week. However, they may reopen Friday based on storm impact.
