Mar 7: Bouhan, Williams & Levy Celebrates 125th Anniversary

Twenty-five years after the Civil War ended, The attorneys of Bouhan, Williams & Levy, LLP opened their law practice to Savannah. Bouhan, Williams & Levyis pleased to announce their 125th Anniversary.

As one of Georgia's oldest and most respected law firms, "This is a landmark celebration for us," says Carlton Joyce, a partner with Bouhan, Williams & Levy.

Founded in 1886, the firm began with William Wilson Osborne, who later partnered with United States Senator Pope Barrow to form Barrow & Osborne. The next century saw leadership change hands several times over, ushering through a number of associates who went on to become esteemed judges, authors and political figures. Yet, throughout its many transformations, the core principles of this law firm remained intact.

"Our predecessors were committed to creating an institution based on integrity, honesty and the highest caliber legal representation," notes Joyce. "We proudly continue that legacy today."

Bouhan, Williams & Levy specializes in the areas of corporate, business, and transactional matters, as well as civil litigation on the local, national and international levels. As such, the firm has enjoyed the opportunity to represent numerous clients in sophisticated business transactions, which has afforded its transactional lawyers the opportunity to develop expertise usually limited to firms in major metropolitan areas. Clients include major corporations, small businesses, professional entities, insurance companies, financial and lending institutions, non-profit corporations, individuals and public sector boards and authorities.

The firm and its attorneys have consistently been named to prestigious groups such as the 2010 U.S. News & World Report's Best Law Firms Rankings, Best Lawyers in America, Georgia Lawyers, Rising Stars, Georgia Trend's Legal Elite, and the American Trial Lawyers Association's Top 100 Attorneys in Georgia, among others.

"I think we have a very good reputation for our ultimate work product," says Edwin Robb, who practices maritime law and has been a member of Bouhan, Williams & Levy since 1970. As well, "By and large, I think our partners enjoy respect from judges."

Robb is one of a handful who have been with the firm for several decades. Members Walter Hartridge and Pomeroy Williams joined in 1961; Lea Holliday the same year as Robb.

The year 1970 marked a new era for the firm as it relocated to the Armstrong House, a historical centerpiece of Savannah once home to Armstrong Junior College.

"In civil litigation and jury trials, we have one of the strongest traditions in Georgia," says Joyce. "Members of the firm are among Georgia's most outstanding trial lawyers and have experience in all phases of litigation."
