August 15, 2019 - Rachel Wilson, local attorney and native Savannahian, recently announced the opening of her new law firm, Nest Estate Planning by L. Rachel Wilson, LLC.

After having practiced law since 2011 and also serving as a professor of wills, estates, and trusts and business law courses at Savannah Law School, South University, and Savannah Technical College, Wilson used her significant experience in practicing and teaching estate planning law to rethink how attorneys provide estate planning services. She decided on a new approach and opened Nest: Estate Planning by L. Rachel Wilson in early 2019. Recognizing the unique needs of younger families with minor children, Wilson set out to create a more holistic approach to estate planning, looking at all aspects of life and legacy, working on a flat-fee package basis, and with concierge service, meeting in her client's homes and offices.

Wilson says, "There's much more to estate planning than just a will. The first hour of our initial meeting is just education so you can be confident in choosing the right plan for your family."

Other aspects include planning for minor children, selecting temporary and permanent guardians for minor children, putting in place trusts to protect a minor's assets in case of a parent's untimely passing. On the Nest Estate Planning website, visitors can create a free document nominating guardians for minor children. Other pieces of an estate plan may include a power of attorney document and an advanced directive for healthcare or a living will.

Finally, Nest Estate Planning's packages always include Legacy Interviews at the conclusion of the representation.

"There's more than one kind of wealth", Wilson says. "Sometimes your stories, wisdom, and experiences are one of your greatest sources of wealth that you want to pass on to your family. In your Legacy Interview we record you talking about who you are and what you want your children to know, and be, and do, and love. It's the greatest gift we can give our families."
