June 28, 2018 – For 16 years since taking the helm, he has grown the Savannah Music Festival into one of the Southeast’s premier music events.  But the Board of Directors of the festival confirme

d today that they have accepted the resignation of Rob Gibson, Executive Director.  He had previously been with Lincoln Center in New York City.

"Mr. Gibson led the organization’s transition and ascendance from a small, primarily local event to one of international prominence, drawing visitors, artists and favorable reviews from around the world to its multi-genre presentations. He leaves to pursue other interests, and SMF wishes him well in those endeavors," an SMF spokesperson told one local media company.

The Board members interviewed said there would be a national search, and until then, the existing staff will oversee operations.  Gibson has been on board to wrap up this year's event that ended in April.   An official statement from the festival board said that he was leaving "to pursue other interests."

The dates for next year’s festival are already set – the 30th year of the festival – which will run from March 28 - April 13, 2019, and include more than 100 performances.

Information on the festival, sponsorships and tickets is available at www.savannahmusicfestival.org.

Rob will be missed by the entire Savannah Community, he built the Savannah Music Festival to worldwide acclaim and each and every year was such a treat to attend. He leaves his mark on Savannah in so many ways including being a former President of Downtown Rotary and involvement in so much more.
