November 5, 2019, 7:00 p.m. - The polls across Chatham County closed at 7:00 p.m., with no reports of long lines are any polling locations. In fact, turnout at many polling locations is running significantly behind the City of Savannah Municipal Elections four years ago, particularly in predominately white polling locations.
But, the numbers will tell the tale as they come in tonight. First numbers to be reported will be either the early voting, reported by polling location, or the absentee ballots. According to Elections Supervisor Russell Bridges, approximately 2,000 absentee ballots were requested, and he estimates between 1,600 and 1,700 were returned by 5 p.m. today. They are all currently being counted.
The Savannah Business Journal is at the Board of Elections, and will be reporting as the numbers come in.
