March 13, 2018 - The City of Savannah held an initial press conference Tuesday morning to confirm what has been rumored, that Vice President Mike Pence and his family will be attending this Saturday's St. Patrick's Day Parade this Saturday, to be hosted by Mayor Eddie DeLoach.

Speaking was Michelle Gavin, the City's Public Information Officer, and Brian M. Counihan, Sr.,  chair of the St. Patrick's Day Committee.

The purpose of the event was to share the City's "excitement" and "honor" that Savannah will be hosting the Vice President, and "shining a national spotlight on this great event," stated Gavin. Mayor DeLoach is in Washington, DC today, she explained.

No information can be released yet on the security measures that are being planned, or how those plans will affect squares and areas to watch parade, or the impact on local roads the Pence's will travel on "for national security reasons," said Gavin.

Additional press conferences will be held in the last three days before the parade, with more information made available, as possible, she said

Counihan said that the "We are honored to have the Vice President attend as we recognize our Patron Saint and our Catholic religion." In response to reporters' questions, he said he had no other information.

Gavin said she had "no information at this time," on what Pence's visit will cost the city.
