August 10, 2018 - More than 120 people packed a meeting room at the Savannah Civic Center this week for the City of Savannah’s Arena Construction Fair.  The goal was to encourage disadvantaged businesses to learn more about the Arena project and connect subcontractors with the firms bidding on the project.

Participants were given an overview of the project and the various subcontracting opportunities available to Disadvantaged Business Enterprises (DBEs) and local firms.

Chief Infrastructure and Development Officer Heath Lloyd said, “The Arena project is a transformative project for Savannah and will be a catalyst for growth in the Arena Redevelopment District.  This event represented an opportunity to connect local businesses, both large and small, with the company that will manage the development of the Savannah Arena, Jones Lang LaSalle (JLL). JLL stressed that that there is “work for everybody” and welcomed input as well as collaboration as we move forward.  In addition, it was an opportunity to voice ideas for consideration as we move forward with such a transformative project.  The event was well attended and a huge success.  It was a great turnout of both local and regional businesses.”

Office of Business Opportunity Director Manuel Dominguez added, “We want to work with our small, local and disadvantaged businesses to ensure that there are opportunities for businesses throughout our community at every stage of the Arena construction project."

Service providers in attendance included: the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) to answer DBE certification questions, the Small Business Assistance Corporation (SBAC) providing small business loans, and the City's Office of Business Opportunity.

Mayor Pro Tem Carol Bell (Alderman-at-large) made welcoming remarks at today's Arena Construction Fair.  Alderwoman Dr. Estella Shabazz (District 5) and City staff led the question and answer session. Alderman Van Johnson (District 1) also attended the event.
