Savannah Business Journal Staff Report

September 25, 2019 - City of Richmond Hill officials recently announced that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has awarded $650,382.30 to the Richmond Hill Fire Department. This federal grant award is funded through the Staffing for Adequate & Fire Emergency Response (SAFER) program.

The SAFER Grant was created to provide funding directly to fire departments and volunteer firefighter interest organizations to help them increase or maintain the number of trained, “front line” firefighters available in their communities. The goal of SAFER is to enhance the local fire departments’ abilities to comply with staffing, response and operational standards established by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA 1710 and/or NFPA 1720).

This SAFER grant will allow the Richmond Hill Fire Department to hire six (6) additional firefighters.

"We congratulate Richmond Hill Fire Department on securing this critical funding," said Mayor Russ Carpenter. “This is a big win for our City, and the result of hard work and determination. We are proud to see their efforts rewarded with this outstanding accomplishment.”
