March 12 - Dr. Alfreda Goldwire Qualifies for District 6 SCCPSS Open Seat

March 12, 2018 – Dr. Alfreda Goldwire qualified last week to run for the District 6 SCCPSS Board of Education seat

vacated by current board member Larry Lower.  Dr. Goldwire ran unsuccessfully against Lower in 2012, and made her campaign announcement official back in January. 

Dr. Goldwire is a veteran educator and president of the Savannah Federation of Teachers, a position she held for 13 years.

She is a retired teacher in the Savannah-Chatham Public Schools, having taught at Bartow, Gadsden and Butler elementary schools. She also served as a Trustee on the Savannah Central Regional Labor Council.

Dr. Goldwire holds a BS in health, recreation and physical education from Savannah State, and Middle Grades certification from Georgia Southern University. She also earned a Master’s Degree in education from Cambridge College, and a doctorate in religious education from Covington Theological Seminary.

She is married to retired Air Force Master Sgt. Freddie Goldwire, and has five adult children.

In both of her campaigns, she has emphasized that she running to insure that the public school system is fair, accessible and dedicated to all children, employees and parents.
